More work to be done....
But the fear remained
I was still afraid in cars...
So much work is left to be done
so I decided to go back
in 1999.
This time
we went by car
all the way...
I felt I had to face the fear
and endure it.
When I saw the 'Maastricht' sign
on the highway
tears welled up and flowed freely.
I had prayed for help
knowing that friends were also praying for me...
We arrived to our hotel safely...

The next day I went to a large cathedral in Tongeren,
a nearby city in Belgium
and lit a candle for the friends that prayed for me
and supported me to have a safe trip

Thank You!
Arriving in Limburg
(in the midst of my fears)
I longed to put my feet
in the cool soothing waters
of 'De Geul' Brook
and that's what I did....

That night
I woke up with the urge
to place white Lilies
on the spot where it happened...
and that's what I did

I wrote on the card:
In memory of the
victims of the
car accident on
November 1, 1966.
Heal the pain -
take away the fear!

The people of the farm on the picture below
helped save our lives
by acting swiftly and allowing
people to call the doctor in 1966...

Bedankt!
U heeft geholpen ons leven te redden!
Thank you! You helped save our lives!

I saw a Lady that was hanging out the laundry
-of course, it was Monday!-
I went down to the farm
and asked her to come over.
I told her about the lilies
I had put in the grass,
I just had to tell someone
and would she care about the lilies, please?
And she remembered!
She remembered November 1966
and painted a picture
in words
of what she recalled
had happened
that day....

(click to enlarge, picture is a bit shaky...)
Her name was Mary
(of course)
and she taught me
how and where to pray exactly...
So that's what I did

And I lit 12 candles
One for my Grandfather, Opa Frits,
One for Gustav

One for myself
One for Mary
One for my partner,
One for my parents
One for my older brothers
four for the people that were in the car that hit us
and one for my friends
that supported me!

Thank You!
This is what my brother Frits, who was named after my Grandfather (Opa Frits)
wrote in my guestbook, after he viewed the pages.
Needless to say that these words are
very precious to me!

Comments: really shocking, overwhelming and emotional,
but great: alone at work I
can let my tears run freely.
I hope that writing it all down will get you free a bit.
love,
your brother with our grandfather's name.
